Flushing Arts Week 2012

The Seventh Flushing Arts Week – Saturday 2nd June –Saturday 9th June

As the nation celebrates the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, 60 years of history, Flushing is celebrating its 7th Arts Week. Although very much the junior partner this year, it will be pushing the boat out to crown the occasion.

There is something special about places that lie across a stretch of water, so near but just out of reach. Flushing, across the river from the bustling port of Falmouth, is just such a place.

Standing on the Falmouth quayside looking across to Flushing as the sun comes down in the evening or as the early morning mist begins to rise, you could almost be in West Egg looking across to East Egg in The Great Gatsby

“If it wasn’t for the mist we could see your home across the bay…You always have a green light that burns all night at the end of the dock.”

Flushing Comes to Life in Jubilee Week

For much of the year Flushing is a quiet haven perfect for a pint of real Cornish ale, a slow meal in one of the pubs or quayside restaurant, perhaps a passing acquaintance with a local sea shanty singing group, enjoying a colourful gig rowing race battling with the elements or simply just taking in the breathtaking views across the bay. However for one week a year it becomes a showcase for a range of local Art, Craft, Music, Film, Theatre, Photography, Animation, Performance and the odd surprise.

Flushing Arts Week is linked to the wider Fal River Festival which runs from 1-10 June and is expected to attract over 100,000 visitors and participants.

Throughout the week there are workshops, open air community arts events and a particular focus on children and family events.

See the events page for a full guide to all the fun activities, with timings and locations.
